LIU Naian of USTC Joins The Combustion Institute

    Recently, The Combustion Institute announced its first list of Fellow of The Combustion Institute. LIU Naian, a researcher of State Key Laboratory of Fire Science, University of Science and Technology of China was on the list, and he was elected by The Combustion Institute for “innovative fundamental research on combustion of extreme fire behaviors in wildland and urban fires.”

    LIU Naian was admitted to USTC in 1991, and won the GUO Moruo scholarship in 1995. He received a Ph.D. degree in Engineering Thermophysics in 2000. He is currently a research fellow and doctoral supervisor of USTC. He has long been engaged in fire spread dynamics in forests and grassland, thermal decomposition kinetics and combustibility in forest fuel, combustion of extreme fire behaviors and other aspects, and has published more than 150 papers so far, including 17 papers on Proc. Combust. Inst. and Combust. Flame which are top journals in combustibility.
    He was also selected in innovation talent promotion plan of the Ministry of Science and Technology (the Science and Technology Innovation Leading Talents), and won the National Outstanding Youth Fund in 2016. He was selected in second batch of national "Ten Thousand People Plan" as scientific and technological innovation leading talents in the same year, and was chosen as “National Talents” in 2017. In recent years, he has been invited to serve as the Associate Editor for three leading journals in fire area: International Journal of Wildland Fire, Fire Safety Journal and Fire Technology, and was elected as the council member of International Association of Wildland Fire in 2014.
    The Combustion Institute, founded in 1954, is the most authoritative academic organization in the international combustion area. Fellow of The Combustion Institute is a lifelong honor established in 2017 to mark the outstanding scientists in the field of combustion worldwide. So far, a total of 125 scientists received the award, and 4 of them are Chinese mainland scholars, including Prof. LIU Naian and Prof. QI Fei (USTC alumni).
