Abstract:
Dirac materials harbor Dirac Fermions, whose low-energy excitations are governed by the Dirac equations of relativistic quantum mechanics. Dirac materials exhibit a number of fascinating electronic and optical properties rooted in the non-trivial topology and/or geometric effects of electronic structures, with remarkable potential applications. In this talk, novel strategies for creating Dirac electronic phases on magnetic oxide heterostructures are proposed and examined based on first-principles calculations. In the first example, a genuine quantum anomalous Hall insulator is fashioned on the interface of simple oxides heterostructure, CrO2/TiO2. In the second example, proximity induced magnetic interactions are found to induce giant valley polarization in MoTe2/EuO heterostructure.
